Kelso Abbey

Today Haidyn told us all about Kelso Abbey. She began by telling us about the history of the Abbey which involved King Davis the 1st, who built the Abbey in 1128. He built the Abbey for monks who had come from France. Unfortunately the English arrived and destroyed the Abbey along with all the other Abbeys in the Borders. Haidyn then went on to tell us about the monks. They were in bed by 7pm each night as they woke up at 2am to read the Bible. She showed us a picture of a monk dressed in black that she had drawn. Haidyn’s favourite part of visiting the Abbey is looking for chestnuts from the chestnut tree next to the Abbey. Well done Haidyn!
