Sports Day was held on Friday after being postponed a week earlier due to rain.  Last year Sports Day was eventually cancelled as bad weather affected all  the proposed dates.  No rain worries this year as the sun came out on a very hot day.

Mr Angus  the PE teacher organised the day with children enjoying some favourites like the sack race, egg and spoon and obstacle.  There was also a parent and child relay, which is popular among some very competitive parents!  Laughing

Children and parents had a great time and you can see how they got on in a slide show movie below!

The Comenius Project that Ednam enjoyed over the last two years with pupils in Spain, France and Italy has now finished.

A record of our work can be found at the Com3nius website here. The last two activities included the Treasure Island story and a book of thoughts and poems by all the pupils in our four countries.  The book is a lasting record of our achievements and is supported by drawings and photos depicting the two years work.  The book is available in hard back, and can be seen in school or pdf copies can be dowloaded and viewed.

We hope you have enjoyed following our work over the last two years, and you can continue to follow our European work in our new Comenius project with ten schools from Greece, Turkey, Cyprus, Romania (2), Bulgaria, Italy, Czech Republic and Poland.  You can follow us hereLaughing

Primary 5-7 will continue our work with our partners in France, as this will be our fifth year working with them.  We also work with two other schools in France, a school in Australia and another in America is about to work with us too.

Primary 5-7 are finding out about Ancient Greece, in particular looking at the story of Troy and how Paris and Helen started the war.

We have looked at weapons, armour and type of warfare, and the fact that most soldiers in ancient Greece had regular jobs and were called up to fight, so wars had to be short.  The battle of Troy however lasted ten years.

We will be involved in a variety of work over the coming weeks and here you can see the class making shields used in ancient Greece, using collage.

The battle of Flodden was fought in the county of Northumberland in northern England on 9 September 1513, between an invading Scots army under King James IV and an English army commanded by the Earl of Surrey. It was an English victoryKing James IV was killed in the battle.

Primary 5-7 looked briefly at the details of this battle and Primary 3/4 are looking at this battle as a topic this term.  To help understand the battle Mr Skelly (Joseph's dad) who is an enthusiast of history, kindly gave up his time to talk to the pupils and show them a selection of reproduction weapons and armour.

Some pupils held the swords and dressed up in the armour, and Mr Skelly gave us a fascinating insight on what led up to the battle and afterwards.

Have a look at some photos from the day to see how the pupils enjoyed the event. Smile
